President Xi Jinping met with Chief Executive John Lee during his duty visit to Beijing.
The president said the central government is confident in Lee and the SAR government's work, and offered his condolences to the victims of the Wang Fuk Court fire.
President Xi Jinping met with Chief Executive John Lee at Beijing's Zhongnanhai this afternoon, marking the CE's fourth duty visit since becoming the city's leader.
The president fully affirmed the work of Lee and the SAR government.
President Xi said Lee led Hong Kong with determination, ensured national security and achieved development for the city's benefit over the past year.
Xi noted the success of the eighth Legislative Council election, adding that the SAR government actively integrated the city into the nation's overall development.
President Xi also expressed his sorrow over the recent Tai Po fire, and offered his condolences to the victims and the firefighter who perished in the line of duty.
Speaking on the 15th Five-Year Plan, the president instructed Lee and the Hong Kong government to actively connect with the plan.
Lee thanked the president and the central government for their consistent care and support for Hong Kong, and promised to do the utmost for the follow-up work in Tai Po.
He noted that SAR authorities have strived for goal-oriented governance and deepened reform over the past year.
He said the government may no longer be in deficit this year following the government and society's efforts.
Lee also said the success of the December 7th Legco elections indicated the Hong Kong community's determination for reform.
Also in attendance today were the nation's top officials including Premier Li Qiang and Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang.
