Speaking on the recent theft cases at Wang Fuk Court, Police Commissioner Joe Chow said four security measures need to be strengthened on site.
They include increasing manpower, limiting the amount of cash that workers can carry when entering the damaged buildings and recording whether there are significant properties inside affected units prior to the entry of workers.
Three renovation workers were earlier arrested on suspicion of stealing jewellery inside a unit in Wang Tai House, with authorities announcing a need to strengthen local security measures.
This as Police Commissioner Joe Chow said renovation work at the site will resume on Monday, and pointed out four measures that will be strengthened.
They include increasing police manpower patrolling the housing estate, and the setting up of lockers on site where workers must place all their belongings except their mobile phones.
Renovation workers are also barred from carrying more than 500 dollars of cash when entering the buildings.
Prior to the workers entering the units, the police will record whether notable properties remain inside designated units.
Officers will subsequently search the workers with metal detectors after they complete their work.
The police commissioner said at its peak, around a hundred workers entered and left the Wang Fuk Court housing estate in the same period. He stressed the police will also strengthen patrols around nearby areas.
Chow noted that authorities received 81 related reports as of 5 p.m. today. He noted that one such case involved credit card fraud, stressing that the police will follow up on the matter.
