Dozens of firefighting teams and brigades in Argentine Patagonia battled fierce wildfires that have rapidly consumed around 2,000 hectares of vegetation. More than 3,000 tourists have been evacuated.

The first outbreaks were recorded on Monday.

Since then, the flames have spread across a vast area of the "Comarca Andina" in southern Argentina, considered one of the favourite tourist destinations in the heart of the Andes Mountains.

More than 350 people were attempting to stop the fire with the help of pickup trucks, motorcycles, tanker trucks, backhoes, bulldozers and boats.

Various aerial assets such as helicopters, amphibious planes, and air tankers are also being used.

The fire comes one year after the worst forest fires in decades razed tens of thousands of hectares in Patagonia. It destroyed dozens of homes, and left one person dead.

Firefighting efforts have been hampered by drought conditions and strong winds.
