One dead and 8 injured at Shek Kip Mei fire

One man is dead and 8 people were injured in a fire at Shek Kip Mei Estate. 

At about 8a.m., residents reported that a unit in Mei Yu House was on fire. Firefighters arrived and used water jets to extinguish the blaze. 

A man was found in the burnt unit and was certified dead at the scene. 

Firefighters rescued multiple people who were suspected to have inhaled heavy smoke. One man and seven women were taken to hospital for treatment. 

About 200 residents were evacuated to the ground floor. 

The Fire Services Department is investigating a possible electrical fault which may have started the fire.
