Guangzhou's fireworks light up Pearl River for Lunar New Year

A fireworks display illuminated Guangzhou's Bai'etan area on the first night of the Lunar New Year, with more than 150,000 fireworks launched into the sky. 

Large crowds gathered along both sides of the Pearl River to take in the show.

Golden bursts cascaded like ripened grains, symbolising a bountiful harvest in the year ahead. Colourful blooms shot skyward, blossoming like a thousand trees in spring, ushering festive cheer into Lingnan.

Red heart-shaped patterns sparkled above the river, a reminder to cherish time with family and friends in the new year.

As the finale thundered across the skyline, cheers erupted from the crowd.
