The government's task force will reveal a long-term rehousing arrangement for residents of fire-hit Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po tomorrow at the earliest.
It is understood that the government is inclined on a buyout of the property titles.
And the possibility of on-site redevelopment would be slim.
Nearly three months after the deadly fire at Wang Fuk Court, questions remain over the long-term rehousing arrangements for around 2,000 affected households.
After the government's task force collected opinions from residents -- a decision is expected soon following analysis.
Chief Executive John Lee earlier said the government is inclined to acquire the property titles from Wang Fuk Court owners.
In the government questionnaire, authorities proposed a reference buyout offer at around 6,000 to 8,000 dollars per square foot for flats without and with paid land premium respectively.
Reportedly, the government is considering raising the offer by around 2,000 dollars.
If so, the total acquisition cost will likely surpass 6 billion dollars.
As for the "flat-for-flat" option mentioned in the questionnaire, it is understood that this will remain available.
Residents may opt for future Green Form Subsidised Home Ownership Scheme flats or other HOS units rolled out in the next two years.
Potential redevelopment sites within the district include Chung Nga Road West and Kwong Fuk Park with the earliest intake expected in 2029.
