The government has announced plans for the long term housing arrangement of residents of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, which was devastated by a deadly fire.
Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong said the government has proposed acquiring all ownership rights in 7 buildings in the estate through a "flat-for-flat" exchange at $8,000 to 10,500 per square foot.
The existing buildings on the site will eventually be demolished. The initial acquisition cost is approximately HK$6.8 billion, with HK$2.8 billion available from the Wang Fuk Court Assistance Fund.
Secretary for Housing, Winnie Ho said the internal structures of the seven buildings in Wang Fuk Court are severely damaged, making repairs difficult and requiring eventual demolition. The government will consider converting them into parks or community facilities.
