Government says three hours sufficient for Wang Fuk Court residents in units

Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration Cheuk Wing-hing said a three-hour time window should be sufficient for Wang Fuk Court residents to return home and collect personal items. The government on Friday announced the residents could return to their units between April 20th and May 5th.

More than four months after the Tai Po blaze, the government will now allow residents of the seven Wang Fuk Court buildings to revisit their units and collect personal belongings in three rounds.

Four people from each household are allowed to return to their flat and stay there for no more than three hours. Some residents said three hours are too short.

Speaking on a radio programme, Deputy Chief Secretary Cheuk Wing-hing said the time window should be sufficient for residents because they would know where to find the needed items.

Cheuk said residents with mobility issues ought to avoid going up the buildings, adding that safety is the key priority.

He hopes individuals can understand that the conditions of some blocks are dangerous so they should select what to take with them carefully.
