The government announced a buyout plan for owners who lost their homes in the Wang Fuk Court blaze.

Speaking on TVB's "On the Record", Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong described the proposal as a "human-centric" decision, emphasizing that the use of public funds is appropriate.

Offers for units with paid-up land premiums is 10,500 dollars per square foot, and 8,000 dollars for those that have not paid premium.

Wong believes the price will enable the owners to purchase a flat of similar conditions.

When asked whether the government would resort to legislation if some owners refuse to have their titles acquired, Wong said the path would not be easy, citing the Basic Law's protections for private property.
