New Year's Eve revellers have gathered in strategic areas of Sydney's harbour in the hope of securing the best spot to watch Wednesday night fireworks to welcome the new year.
There will be an extra police presence in Sydney and other Australian cities for this year's New Year's Eve celebrations in the wake of the Bondi shooting.
In Sydney, people have started lining up and waiting around the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge as well as in the Botanical Gardens ahead of Wednesday night's New Years' Eve celebrations.
Another prized viewpoint is Blues Point, which has unobstructed views of the Harbour Bridge.
Queues formed up the street as people waited to pass through security checks before finding their spots.
Wednesday's New year's Eve fireworks and visual display will feature a tribute to the victims of the Bondi terror attack.
There will be an extra police presence in Sydney and other Australian cities for this year's New Year's Eve celebrations in the wake of the shooting.
Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese focused on the Bondi shooting in his New Year's address.
He said: "Following the terror inflicted on Jewish Australians at Bondi Beach, our hearts ache for every life lost and every life changed forever. Yet, what Bondi also showed us was the best of the Australian spirit in all its courage and compassion and that is why I'm optimistic and determined that in the new year we will rise to meet the challenges ahead of us in the same way Australians always do; by working together and looking after each other and no matter what the world throws at us, we will keep doing things our way, stay true to who we are, hold onto everything that makes us the best country on earth."
